Resumen

This project presents the design and prototyping of a low-cost mechatronic device for passive and active lower limb rehabilitation. The project was carried out at the Mechatronics and Automation Research Laboratory (LIMA) of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC), aiming to promote the development and accessibility of rehabilitation technologies in the local context. The proposed solution allows leg exercises based on flexion and extension movements, offering adjustable intensity levels and selectable rehabilitation modes (active or passive). An interactive game was integrated to enhance user engagement, along with a data logging system for both local and cloud-based storage. The design was validated through proof-of-concept testing on a functional prototype, assessing mechanical performance, user experience, and compliance with cost targets.
