Resumen
The Warehouse Automation course in the Industrial Production Engineering program at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology introduced a hands-on approach to studying Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). As part of the course methodology, the instructor and students developed a simulator using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Excel. The simulator included modules for purchase order creation, goods reception, storage, and dispatch operations. This tool enabled students to gain a comprehensive understanding of warehouse management processes and the strategic role of WMS at each stage. Simultaneously, it enhanced their programming skills by utilizing Excel, an accessible and widely used platform, fostering the application of automation and technology concepts in a practical and replicable environment. The simulator not only facilitated the analysis of logistical flows and identification of bottlenecks but also encouraged problem-solving and operational optimization through controlled simulations. The outcomes demonstrate that interactive technological tools enhance active learning and prepare future professionals to address the technological challenges of modern industry. This approach highlights the importance of integrating practical methodologies with accessible technologies in higher education.
