IoT system with AR capabilities for Replication of Mechatronic Processes at an Educational Level

Abstract

This project focuses on the modernization and technological update of the FESTO MPS PA Compact Workstation module for its implementation as an educational tool at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC). The main objective is to design a system that incorporates SCADA, augmented reality (AR), and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities to replicate mechatronic processes at an educational level. To achieve this objective, subsystems for automation, supervision, and process control were designed. The project developed graphical interfaces for data visualization and implemented technologies enabling local and remote access. Proof-of-concept tests validated the functionality and effectiveness of the system. The results highlight the importance of modernizing educational tools in engineering to enhance the understanding and analysis of mechatronic processes. The implementation of the developed system not only improves operational efficiency and safety but also provides students with an interactive and personalized learning experience, aligned with the needs of the current professional environment.
