Identification of Monitoring Variables' Impact Ranges for the National Theater of Costa Rica's Digital Twin

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This article is related to the project called “Digital Twin as a management tool for the programmed conservation plan. Case study: Foyer and Fumadores of the National Theater of Costa Rica”, in which the Theater collaborates with the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC). This collaboration addresses the concept of the Digital Twin (DT), its significance as a conservation tool for the most important cultural space in Costa Rica, as well as the conceptualization of the prototype to be developed. The expected DT considers four variables to be monitored: relative humidity, ambient temperature, amount of light incident on the materials, and particles in the environment. For the project, it is necessary to determine reference ranges for the impact of these variables on the materials present in the monitored elements. TEC, through its Materials Engineering Research and Extension Center (CIEMTEC for its acronym in Spanish), has the technology to establish the materials’ degradation through classical aging tests, in which the materials fail depending on their response to the environment around them, specifically temperature, humidity, and ultraviolet rays. This collaboration exposes the results obtained by the tests, as well as the reference ranges of environmental impact for the main materials present in the spaces analyzed in this case study.
