Abstract
Nowadays, climate change effects has been shown their negative impact in all human activities. Therefore there is a growing need in various research fields including protected horticulture industry to record and process data from multiple sensors, sensors sometimes located in remote greenhouses, miles apart from each other. The usual approach to sensor data recording implies separate measurement equipment for each variable, making difficult and expensive the integration and processing of joint data. In this paper an affordable solution is here proposed, providing with an integrated multivariable measurement environment, using commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) and taking advantage of the ubiquitous computing capabilities available today, in what is generally known as Internet of Things. The proposed system was successfully tested as a monitor to measure drainage (milliliters) and electrical conductivity (mS/cm) on cucumber crops. Multiple variables (drainage, electrical conductivity, as inputs and irrigation as output) are associated as linguistic variables for decision-making considering a Mandani Fuzzy Logic Controller. Furthermore, captured data is sent to a remote database that is connected to Internet, where researchers can perform various data analysis online for monitoring and decision-making towards mitigation of climate change effects on sensible tropical crops.
