Abstract

The present study was developed with the aim of exploring the beliefs that mathematics teachers, in the province of Cartago, have about the learning evaluation. The study was carried out with 107 teachers who worked in secondary schools in the province during the 2013 school year. For this study, a questionnaire was designed in which general information about the teachers and some data about their education were requested. The questionnaire used Likert scales to measure their beliefs about assessment instruments, features and evaluation uses. The test Bartlett’s sphericity was applied in the data and the coefficient KMO was calculated in order to carry a conglomerated analysis of K-means This information allowed to classify teachers in four groups according to the beliefs expressed in the instrument. The teachers who are more acquiesce to the traditional practice, the ones who value the written test but not the reliability and validity analysis, the teachers who are the most satisfied with the system and the most dissatisfied with the system.
