Abstract

Generally, the public health services have a high demand from patients, particularly when it comes to support different services that provide support to other medical specialties and sometimes to other hospitals within the service network. For timely patient care, these services must have an adequate balance in supply and demand, otherwise there will be long waiting times. In this case, the process of a Cytology Service (SC) presents a lag in diagnoses is analyzed. This analysis considered the current process mapping, the cycle times of each activity, as well as a probabilistic study in which the historical data available to the SC will be considered. In addition, as part of the current diagnosis, were applied tools based on the principles of Lean Healthcare (Lean manufacturing applied to health services) identifying the waste defined by this philosophy, with the aim of adding value to the process and reducing time Cycle. Finally, the causes that limited the installed capacity of the process were identified and a design was formulated that reduced the lag in the production of this service.
