Abstract
In this article, the process analysis focused on the implementation in a pathology laboratory of an added-value map, a characteristic tool of the Lean Healthcare philosophy, so as to be able to identify opportunities to improve, that would increase the productive capacity of this service. This approach allowed to construct a discrete-event simulation model to carry out a diagnosis of the current situation and evaluate the impact of the opportunities to improve. The main objective was to reduce the cycle time of solving the cytologies received in the laboratory. Through this exhaustive analysis, key areas were identified to optimize the procedures and increase the efficiency in the cytology management process with the application of principles such as one-piece-flow, pull production systems and the added-value chain in combination with a balance of the production line. It was found that this method, together with the integration of the Lean philosophy, promotes a more effective management of resources and time, always seeking operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
