Abstract

Various areas of computing give importance to applied research in real contexts and aimed at improving the quality of life of people, especially those with disabilities. Research and projects in the development of accessible websites are an example. Some have focused on complying with the accessibility guidelines of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. However, the quality of the content of these sites sometimes causes little interest or rejection of users with disabilities. Some software development methodologies were identified that are not very flexible and expensive for projects where websites are required to be accessed and used by as many people as possible. This article presents the experience of using a software development methodology that guarantees the construction of accessible products involving the proposal of a validation process and accessibility correction in the software life cycle. The proposed methodology seeks to make the process on the implementation of accessibility in information systems more agile and flexible. The case of the use of the methodology in the 'Costa Rican Information System on Disability System' (SICID) project developed at the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) is presented. The use of this methodology guarantees compliance with the WCAG 2.0 principles, which has as the main objective that all users can access the websites in equal conditions.
