Project Details

Description

The actions of SENARA in the Arenal–Tempisque Irrigation District (DRAT) focus on providing adequate and timely irrigation services. Aware that the development of the area involves more than just supplying irrigation, and having identified issues in administrative management, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and general post-harvest handling, SENARA reached out to the School of Agribusiness to coordinate actions in three of the rural settlements served: La Soga, Falconiana, and Agro Lajas.
These improvement initiatives are being promoted by the irrigation district to raise awareness among small producers on aspects such as administrative management, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and general post-harvest handling of the crops grown in each location. In addition, the aim is to carry out a technical–productive characterization of each settlement, so that in the next stage, a more comprehensive extension project proposal can be developed to support the area.
The planned approach includes stakeholder mapping through semi-structured interviews, workshops, and participatory assessments, along with awareness-raising activities and capacity-building for the producers.

General Objective

To raise awareness, through a participatory and inclusive approach, among producers in the rural settlements of La Soga, Falconiana, and Agro Lajas in administrative management processes, quality assurance of cultivated products, and post-harvest handling, in order to boost their empowerment, strengthen their organization, and improve their market opportunities.
