Description

The quality control of raw materials to produce drugs is essential to ensure their effectiveness in the treatment of diseases. The pharmaceutical industry invests many resources in the analysis of precursors and finished products, however, sometimes users show differences in the therapeutic effectiveness of different batches of medicines. It has been proposed that one of the possible causes of differences in the effectiveness of drugs of the same brand or between drugs of the same composition, but of different brands, is the formation of co-crystals and polymorphs of active principles. In Costa Rica there is an important pharmaceutical industry of generic medicines and these types of situations are frequent. To study this situation, it is proposed to study two active principles related to a very frequent condition in the Costa Rican population, such as high blood pressure. The pharmaceutical company Calox will provide the active principles, and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UCR, will collaborate with the characterization analysis.

General Objective

Establecer la influencia del polimorfismo y la formación de co-cristales en las
propiedades físicas de fármacos antihipertensivos mediante técnicas espectroscópicas y de difracción de rayos-X.
