Project Details
Description
Intervention projects in historical buildings, which are architectural heritage, present technical, legal, and financial complexities, different from those of a new construction, which implies a modification in the management processes, both in the design and construction phases, as well as in the stages of use of the building. Although the Costa Rican State, through many entities, owns approximately 80% of these buildings, it does not have institutional protocols that systematize the intervention processes, so that the country does not have minimum standards that guarantee the use of the resources invested in these types of projects.
The Architecture and Urbanism School and the Construction Engineering School at TEC, in collaboration with the Architecture Department of the University of Bologna, the Graphic Expression Department and the University Institute of Architecture and Construction Sciences (IUACC) at the University of Seville, and the Center for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage (CICPC) at the Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ), intend to develop this research through the analysis of documentary information and previous experiences based on the criteria of national and international experts. The collaborative work between these institutions intends to integrate HBIM (Heritage Building Information Modeling) methodologies, with those suggested by the PMI (Project Management Institute), to manage and direct the execution, closure, and scheduled conservation phases of intervention projects in historical buildings in Costa Rica
The products obtained at the end of the project will be a protocol for the execution, closing, and planned conservation in the life cycle of intervention projects in historical buildings. Likewise, management tools will be produced for these phases, and two scientific articles will be published in indexed journals. These products will serve as input to all professionals in the construction industry who work in the field of architectural heritage conservation
