Project Details
Description
This proposal is part of the process initiated with the project "Management and Preventive
Conservation tools for interventions in Costa Rican heritage buildings” developed in 2020 and 2021.
The results are continued through the application of the protocol for the formulation of the
Programmed Conservation Plan (PCP) of the foyer and smokers of the National Theater of Costa
Rica (NT), whose information not only allows the improvement of the PCP protocol, but will also
facilitate the future development of a digital twin (DT).
The proposal consists of two phases, with five objectives, and a total of five years of development.
The first phase involves a two-year applied science project, for which funding is being requested in
the current round of projects and covers the first three objectives. The second phase contemplates
a technological development project, covering the last two objectives, with a three-year execution,
to be submitted in a later call for proposals. Both phases are described in this proposal since a
comprehensive understanding of the approach is necessary.
The first objective is to review and improve the PCP guide, through its practical application for the
generation of monitoring variables. For this purpose, a comparison is made between the
methodology proposed by the PCP protocol and the documents related to the conservation process
of the foyer and smokers of the NT. On the other hand, a second objective defines the baseline of
the future digital twin that will be a tool for the management of the PCP monitoring and control
processes.
The third objective involves integrating the graphic, non-graphic and linked information of the
property through the 3D models proposed in the PCP related to the management of the processes
of diagnosis, design and execution of the interventions of the area to be monitored of the case under
study, as well as constituting the basis of the first level of visualization of the DT. All the information
available to the NT should be reviewed and systematized, as well as the digital survey of the spaces,
in accordance with the variables established and the objectives of the plan.
In the second stage or future technological development project, the aim is to define the
programmed conservation actions that would be managed through the DT, model the specific
artistic and architectural elements that contain the monitoring information and that in turn will be the
basis for the second level of visualization of the DT, and develop the centralized digital information
and visualization system that will allow the monitoring of the property.
The proposal considers an interdisciplinary team formed by researchers from the TEC Schools of
Architecture and Urbanism, Industrial Design and Computer Science, together with the
Conservation Department of the NT. In addition, the project is supported by personnel from the
Department of Architectural Graphic Expression of the University Institute of Architecture and
Construction Sciences of the University of Seville, as well as from the Faculty of Architecture of the
University of Liège, Belgium.

General Objective

y emprededurismo.
