Project Details

Description

This project aims to contribute to addressing the "educational blackout" (Eighth Report on the State of Education, 2021) by creating educational resources to enhance the quality of mathematics education in the third year of Basic General Education (EGB). To achieve this, the proposal involves creating an interactive and contextualized Open Educational Resource (OER) for third-year assessments, in accordance with the current mathematics curriculum.

This OER will encompass theoretical aspects, examples, exercises with solutions, introductory problems, explanatory videos, and interactive web activities, all integrated into an interactive book. Additionally, a printable booklet with practice materials for students will be generated, and downloadable packages with the produced videos will be made available, catering to students with poor internet access. It is essential to emphasize that these videos will be subtitled to accommodate the hearing-impaired population. Unlike previous projects where interactive applications were selected after thorough web searches, this project will develop its own interactive applications tailored to the MEP (Ministry of Public Education) study programs, created in collaboration with MATEC students to generate, where possible, our own technological applications

The project will be carried out through an interdisciplinary approach, involving experts in mathematics, education, mathematics didactics, and technology, encouraging active participation from MATEC students. Collaboration with regional mathematics advisors from the regional education offices in Coto (Ciudad Neily), Puriscal, Aguirre (Quepos), and Sula (Limón, Bribri) will ensure the validation of materials by experts and the effectiveness of their dissemination. The project will also benefit from the collaboration of volunteer teachers from different regions of the country in validating the materials.

The project aligns with the Institutional Strategic Plan 2022-2026, contributing to the fulfillment of objective 2, specifically goals ME.2.1.5 and ME.2.2.1. It finds support in the "Academic Model" approved by the III Institutional Congress, which emphasizes TEC's commitment to improving other educational levels in society

Furthermore, it is grounded in the Law for the Promotion of Scientific and Technological Development, as this legal framework establishes, among other objectives, the specific goal of improving mathematics education. It also connects with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly concerning the quality of education (SDG 4, specifically target 4.1).
