Project Details
Description
The proposal focuses on the postharvest treatment of gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) in berries of commercial interest, such as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries, using coatings based on the natural chitosan polymer to increase the fruit's shelf life. We initially propose an interaction activity with various actors in the agro-chain (producers, industrialists, consumers) to define and adjust the optimal characteristics that this type of coating must have to satisfy the quality of these fresh products, as well as to establish information about its production and how it is affected by Botrytis cinerea. Based on the prototype of the aqueous chitosan coating that we developed in phase 01 of this project, we will evaluate this polymer's in vitro fungicidal action against the selected pathogens; we will adapt the fruit coating with the fixed doses of the polymer, if necessary, and linking the information on the pathogen, its in vitro inhibition, and final product requirements, we will evaluate the protective effect of this coating on the fruits together.
with the collaborating producers. The knowledge generated will be transferred to the actors in the fresh berry agro-chain associated with the project
