Project Details

Description

In this project, boar semen samples are collected and will be conducted in the Huetar Norte Region. According to the sanitary collection protocol established by the project, the samples will be transferred to the Biotechnology Laboratory of the School of Agronomy, located in Santa Clara, Florencia. The collected samples will come from breeding males of the pig farms (after selection, coordination and endorsement by the producers) of the selected localities, in the process following the biosafety measures described by the National Animal Health Service (SENASA). The collected samples will be subjected to seminal contrast analysis by analyzing microscopic variables (sperm movement).

quality, kinetics, morphology, membrane integrity, and concentration). The parameters studied will be analyzed using computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA). The aim is to create a database with the seminal parameters evaluated for each sample, boar(s), and farm, and to relate sperm quality to the fertility of the females. In addition, participating producers will be provided with feedback through the submission of analytical reports and advice for them in interpreting and making on-farm decisions based on the data and information generated
