Project Details
Description
This research project will contribute to the development of verbal and mathematical reasoning skills in 10th and 11th grade high school students from low-income, high-risk social areas. The project will be implemented in nine high schools, five of which belong to the School District Office in Cartago (educational departments 01-05 and 08) and the other four to the School District Office in San Carlos (educational departments 07-08 and 10).
The sample population consists of 10th grade students and their math and Spanish teachers. The main objective is to provide them with learning strategies using different technological tools in order to develop verbal and mathematical reasoning. The aim is for the students to be able to pass the admission tests required by Costa Rican public universities
The project is divided into three stages: First, teachers will participate in workshops about the importance of enhancing their students' verbal and mathematical reasoning, based on the MEP curriculum. Second, activities will be carried out to help students develop verbal and mathematical reasoning strategies. Third, the information collected during the second stage will provide theoretical and practical foundations to validate the techniques used. The goal is to design materials using technological tools to facilitate students' progress in verbal and mathematical reasoning, as well as to be able to provide this information to the Ministry of Education
