Project Details
Description
This project aims to model and calibrate hydraulic models that integrate green infrastructure within the Bermúdez River basin, incorporating climate change components. The study area focuses on the central district of Belén, which is located downstream from other communities that also discharge their waters into the Bermúdez River, increasing its vulnerability to flooding events.
To achieve accurate modeling, water level sensors will be installed upstream and downstream of the study area, enabling real-time data collection. The entire basin will be modeled to fully understand the hydrological dynamics and assess the impact of different nature-based solutions (NbS). Additionally, the LACCLIVE laboratory will complement the acquisition of hydraulic design parameters, which will serve as the basis for incorporating NbS into the proposed models.
The project seeks to generate technical and scientific information to identify best practices for green infrastructure to mitigate urban flooding, as well as evaluate its effectiveness in climate change adaptation and mitigation. The results will serve as a key input for resilient territorial planning and decision-making in the canton of Belén.

General Objective
