Project Details
Description
Extreme and rapid changes in environmental conditions lead to new challenges in agricultural practices. Soil conservation has become a primary task to promote sustainable agriculture and food security. Biochar is considered an option for soil conservation; however, the effects of biochar on the soil tend to be very complex and specific to the type of biomass source used, thermal production process, climate, soil type, and application rate. For this reason, any study on the impact of biochar as an amendment contributes to a better understanding of the interaction between the various variables and its effect on the environment. This project aims to study the effect of biochar,
as an amendment, on the soil's water dynamics through changes in the physical and hydraulic properties of amended soils
In this study, the main soil parameters will be analyzed. The physical, hydraulic, and mechanical properties of the amendments will be evaluated to determine the soil's conditions for transport and water retention. The study will be carried out in small plots with sampling units (seedlings), where biochar will be applied in two doses (5 and 10% of the dry weight). Production will be correlated with treatments to further evaluate the amendment's productive functionality.
The results of this study will allow for the evaluation of the effect of biochar on production and quantification of changes in the physical properties of the soil, which can provide information on the feasibility of using biochar as an option for sustainable agriculture
