Description

The population of freshmen entering higher education experiences a critical period in the face of multiple academic, psychosocial, and institutional changes that can influence their adaptation and successful integration into university life and, therefore, their academic performance and retention. At the international level, various questionnaires have been adapted and applied, but in the Costa Rican context, there is no validated instrument to measure this multifactorial construct. For this reason, this research aims to design and validate a scale to evaluate a model of adjustment to university life in three dimensions: academic, motivational, and social.

The study will be descriptive-correlational, employing various techniques for data collection and analysis to assess the validity of the model of adaptation to university life, specifically: content, factorial structure, convergent, and predictive. The research will be conducted in three stages and will involve freshmen from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology in 2022

From the results, a Likert-type scale will be obtained, designed from a theoretical model, with sufficient empirical evidence of validity, which will allow to evaluate this construct, identify risk factors and make timely decisions to improve adaptation and encourage student success during his first year of college in Costa Rica
