Project Details

Description

Among the main factors affecting the Tiribí River Micro basin are the development of unsustainable productive activities, the lack of integration of the various actors involved in the use of natural resources, and the scarcity of environmental education opportunities. These factors can significantly impact water production with important consequences such as loss of biodiversity, forest cover, and soil, as well as a reduction in agricultural and livestock productivity. Therefore, it is essential to develop a model that promotes community participation while ensuring sustainable water management and, consequently, the conservation of biodiversity and the environmental services it provides.
The aim of this proposal is to develop a model that ensures the management of natural resources through an ecological restoration proposal for the recovery of the flora and fauna of the Tiribí River Micro basin. The specific objectives include: (a) Modeling water and sediment production in the Tiribí River basin under scenarios of land cover changes and climate variability; (b) Assessing the current state of wildlife and their habitats to determine conservation actions; (c) Developing an ecological restoration plan for the recovery of flora and fauna in such a way that the integrity of the ecosystems is restored.
This project lays the foundation for what is expected to become a practice and study field for the School of Forest Engineering in the future. This first stage will provide information that will be integrated into various courses of the degree and will serve to strengthen the Emphasis on Conservation and Restoration of Forest Ecosystems.
