Diagnosis of the energy systems in three schools of the Cabécar territory in Chirripó

This extension strengthening activity aims to enhance the community’s energy capacities through a technical and usage assessment of the photovoltaic solar systems at the Bäyeiñak, Duchari, and Duseriñak schools, located in the Cabécar Indigenous Territory of Chirripó. The initiative responds to the challenges faced by the educational communities in maintaining their solar energy systems and ensuring a stable electricity supply.
The project consists of three components: Technical: a technical diagnosis of photovoltaic systems and mapping of energy needs and key actors; Cultural: compilation of community knowledge and perceptions about electricity use; and Social: a participatory process of integrating the project with local indigenous people. The methodology includes active community participation and an interdisciplinary approach that combines engineering, social sciences, and the Cabécar cultural worldview, with the goal of strengthening local capacities to maintain the systems in the long term and fostering mutual learning.

Caracterizar las formas de uso y el estado técnico de los sistemas de energía solar fotovoltaica en las escuelas Bäyeiñak, Duchari y Duseriñak del Territorio Indígena Chirripó, con el fin de generar información y diagnósticos para promover estrategias que fortalezcan la gestión energética escolar y promuevan la apropiación comunitaria desde una cosmovisión indígena.
