Project Details
Description
Dams are infrastructures that benefit the country, as they are a source of electricity generation
that is potentially environmentally friendly. They also benefit the communities that surround them
because of the economic and productive activities that can be developed thanks to them.
However, they are an anthropic intervention that, depending on how they are managed, could
generate significant socio-environmental and ecological impacts due to changes in the hydrology
and morphology of the river. The Pirrís Hydroelectric Project (P.H. Pirrís) is located on the main
riverbed, taking advantage of the water resources of one fifth of the basin, and there are no
studies on the possible impacts that could be generated on this basin. Translated with www.
Therefore, this project aims to analyze the dynamics of the aquatic habitat by comparing the
conditions at the tail of the dam reservoir, the critical path and downstream of the restitution in
P.H. Pirrís. For this it will be necessary to evaluate the flow regimes at these three points for the
current and climate change scenarios, due to the potential effect that this global climate variation
has on the aquatic systems of the rivers; these will be the basis for the habitat simulation in order
to obtain the curves of the weighted usable area (WUA-Q) of the indicator species. Thus, the
project hopes to be a useful technical resource for public and private entities in making decisions
regarding the implementation of hydraulic structures that modify the river’s natural dynamic
character.
