Description
The extension project aims to generate processes of vocational counseling and development of
mathematical logic skills in the process of admission to ITCR for diversified education students from
public schools, formal education and day schools in the province of Cartago, in the cantons of Jimenez
(Juan Viñas, Pejibaye and Tucurrique districts) and Turrialba (Turrialba, La Suiza, Tres Equis and Tuis
districts, enrolled in tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades). This activity collaborates with the actions of
attraction towards STEM careers and as part of the process, counseling will be offered in the psychoeducational and vocational area with which it is expected to identify the affinity of the students with the
careers offered at the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR), This will allow each young person
to have more tools for the informed choice of career, for which a summarized version of the Test of
Skills and Vocational Preferences in ITCR Careers will be applied, whose results will provide greater
input to students for informed vocational decision making. At the same time, mathematical logic
instruction will be offered in order to stimulate the development of skills to face the admission test, as
well as future university life.
The documents and materials developed and used in the advisory and training activities will be
delivered to the educational centers at the end of this project, so that they can be used as input for
future work with future populations in these institutions.
The project thus constitutes a way of favoring populations in districts with low social development
indexes, offering greater possibilities of access to higher education, which will result in tools for the life
of the participants.
