Project Details

Description

Melanoma is one of the most aggressive skin cancers; however, it is possible to cure it if detected early. Through measurement techniques used in imaging, some of the parameters considered key to the detection of melanoma can be characterized. These parameters are known as the ABCDEs of melanoma: asymmetry, irregularity of borders, variety of colors, diameter, and evolution or change. In our country, many

doctors use the ABCDE criteria; however, the vast majority are based on qualitative observation and estimates. This project aims to establish measurement criteria for the different parameters, making it easier for doctors to observe the evolution of melanoma and keeping track of it

General Objective

Desarrollar una metodología de análisis de imágenes basada en los criterios dermatológicos ABCDE del melanoma que contribuya al diagnóstico del cáncer de piel en Costa Rica.
