Project Details

Description

Adjustment to university life is a key process for student permanence that represents various challenges for the university population, especially for women. However, little research has been found that specifically addresses this phenomenon. For this reason, the research aims to analyze the discourses of students and teachers regarding the process of adjustment to university life in female STEM students at the Central Campus of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica to identify possible university strategies. The study will be exploratory with a qualitative methodological approach that will use focus groups as the main data collection technique and critical discourse analysis as a qualitative analysis procedure, allowing the approach to the object of study from the perception of the participants. Approximately 10-15 female students, 5-10 male first-year students and 10 teachers of STEM careers who present higher levels of female exclusion will participate in the research. Based on the results, we seek to contribute to the construction of knowledge on the subject and identify possible university strategies that favor this process and respond to national and international policies related to the access and permanence of women in STEM careers.
