Personal profile

Anthony Valverde is an Agronomist and Zootechnician Engineer from the University of Costa Rica (UCR). He holds a Master’s degree Cum Laude in Animal Genetic Improvement and Reproductive Biotechnology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), and a Doctorate Cum Laude in Biological Sciences, Biodiversity, and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Valencia (Spain). He has been a professor at the School of Agronomy of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) since 2008.

In 2014, he founded the Animal Reproduction Laboratory (AndroTEC), focused on semen analysis using CASA technology—technology that had not been introduced in the country until then—with the goal of promoting technological development and research capacity in semen evaluation by applying objective analytical criteria to breeding animals in the national livestock sector.

He has over 10 years of research experience, concentrating on the study of animal reproductive biology. In 2024, he completed a Master’s degree Summa Cum Laude in Bioethics at the National University and the University of Costa Rica. In the field of bioethics, his research revolves around promoting ethics and animal welfare in the professional practice of agronomic sciences and in scientific ethics committees, with publications addressing the human–animal bond.

Since 2023, he has been a Full Professor and Level-2 Consolidated Researcher under the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Extension (VIE) at TEC. He has published more than 85 scientific articles in indexed journals, holds an H-index of 25, and has amassed over 1,400 citations.
