Abel Méndez-Porras is a professor and researcher in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, innovation, and technology entrepreneurship. His work integrates academic research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and applied innovation, with a particular interest in transforming scientific and technological knowledge into solutions for real-world challenges. He has academic experience at TEC, UCR, UNED, UTN in Costa Rica, and MacEwan University in Canada. Founder of two companies: ViBeN (a real state company) and Visione Edge (a technology company).
Teaching
Academic background in Computer Science and Informatics, complemented by continuous professional development in emerging technologies, innovation, entrepreneurship, and STEM education. He completed more than 200 hours of specialized training through the STEM Costa Rica Program offered by LASPAU and SINAES in 2018 and 2021. His academic development combines computing and artificial intelligence with interdisciplinary approaches to innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
Professional Experience
Professor and researcher with experience in higher education, research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. He has been academically associated with TEC, UCR, UNED, UTN, and MacEwan University, and has developed international academic collaborations with institutions in Canada, Austria, Germany, and Colombia. He is a MICITT-registered Innovation Manager and has experience connecting universities, companies, institutions, and territories through research, innovation, training, and technology-transfer initiatives.
His international teaching experience includes the course Technology Entrepreneurship: From Concept to Startup Venture, delivered in Canada and focused on opportunity identification, value proposition design, idea validation, scalable business models, and sustainability.
